Remove Unwanted People with Camera Raw’s People Removal

Photoshop’s Camera Raw includes a People Removal option that intelligently removes background people while keeping your main subject. You’ll enable Technology Previews, run the tool, view detected areas, and regenerate pins to fix artifacts.

Step-by-step instructions

Open Camera Raw

  • In Photoshop, go to Filter → Camera Raw Filter to open the Camera Raw workspace.

Enable Technology Previews

  • Click the gear icon (Preferences) in Camera Raw.

  • Open Technology Previews and enable the new features (including Reflection and People removal).

  • Click OK.

Choose the Remove tool and enable AI

  • Select the Remove Tool (eraser icon) in the toolbar.

  • In the panel, turn on Use Generative AI.

Preview detected people

  • In the Remove Tool section, expand People by clicking its arrow.

  • Enable Show Overlay to see detected areas; change the overlay color if needed for visibility.

Remove background people

  • Click Remove to let Camera Raw remove distracting people while preserving the subject.

Fix problem areas with pins

  • Turn on Show Overlay to display the individual pins for removed areas.

  • Select a problematic pin and click Generate to reprocess just that area.

  • To keep an area, select its pin and press Delete to exclude it from removal.

Apply changes

  • Click OK to apply the edits and return to Photoshop with people removed.
