Draw a single hair shape

  • File → New to create a small document (e.g., 1000 × 1000 px).

  • Select the Curvature Pen Tool (P).

  • Click once at the top, once at the bottom, then click the top again to close the path.

  • Click the center of the path and drag to form a tapered, hair-like shape.

Define the brush preset

  • Go to Edit → Define Brush Preset…

  • Name your brush and click OK.

Set brush dynamics

  • Open Window → Brush Settings.

  • Increase Spacing so individual strands are visible.

  • Enable Shape Dynamics and increase Size Jitter and Angle Jitter.

  • Open Scattering and increase Scatter and Count to vary strand placement.

Paint on mask edges

  • Select the layer mask of your subject.

  • Choose the Brush Tool (B) and pick your new hair brush.

  • Paint along the mask edges to add natural hair/fur strands.
