Flip a Single Layer in Photoshop (Horizontal or Vertical)

Need to mirror a single element in your composition? Use Photoshop’s Transform options to flip only the selected layer horizontally or vertically. This keeps other layers and the canvas unchanged.

Step-by-step instructions

Select the layer you want to flip

  • In the Layers panel, click the layer to target it.

  • Ensure no multi-layer selections are active unless you want to flip them together.

Flip the layer

  • Go to Edit → Transform → Flip Horizontal to mirror left/right.

  • Or go to Edit → Transform → Flip Vertical to mirror top/bottom.

  • Repeat as needed; use Edit → Undo if you picked the wrong direction.
