Flatten an Image in Photoshop and Save as PDF for Printing

Before printing, confirm your image fits the plotter paper and flatten the file to a single layer. This guide covers sizing, non‑destructive saving, flattening, and exporting as a PDF with the required filename format.

Step-by-step instructions

Check print size limits

  • Go to Image → Image Size.

  • Set the units to Inches and ensure Width ≤ 35 in and Height ≤ 47 in.

  • If needed, enable Resample and adjust dimensions proportionally to fit within the limits.

Save a working copy before flattening

  • Go to File → Save As.

  • Enter a different filename so you can return to the layered file later.

  • Click Save.

Flatten the image

  • Go to Select → All (Ctrl+A) to ensure the whole canvas is active.

  • Go to Layer → Flatten Image to merge all layers into one.

  • Verify the Layers panel now shows a single Background layer.

Save as Photoshop PDF with correct name

  • Go to File → Save As and choose Photoshop PDF as the format.

  • Name the file using: yourPSUaccessID_college (e.g., xyz123_AG).

  • Click Save to finalize the PDF and prepare for printing.
