Change a Shape’s Fill Color in Photoshop
If you’re working with shape layers, you can change their color in seconds. This guide shows two beginner-friendly ways to update a shape’s fill using either the layer controls or the Properties panel.

Step-by-step instructions
1
Select the shape layer
Choose the Move Tool (V).
In the Layers panel, click the vector shape layer you want to recolor.
2
Change color from the Layers panel
In Layers, double-click the shape layer’s thumbnail (the color swatch/shape icon).
Pick a new color in the Color Picker and click OK.
3
Change color from the Properties panel
Go to Window → Properties (ensure it’s visible).
With the shape layer selected, click the Fill swatch in Properties.
Choose a new color (or gradient/pattern, if desired).
4
Optional: Adjust stroke
In Properties, set Stroke color and width if your shape needs an outline.
Set Stroke to None if you want only a fill.
