Create a Vignette in Photoshop (2025)
In this tutorial, you’ll create a classic vignette that darkens the edges while keeping the center bright. You’ll use a Gradient Fill adjustment layer set to a radial style and finish with the Multiply blend mode for a natural look. Everything remains editable, so you can fine‑tune the intensity later.

Step-by-step instructions
Add a Gradient Fill adjustment layer
Go to Layer → New Fill Layer → Gradient… and click OK.
In the Gradient Fill dialog, click the gradient swatch.
Choose a black-to-white gradient and set Radial style
In the Gradient Picker, choose Basics → Black, White (often the third preset).
Set Style → Radial.
Enable Reverse so the center stays light and the edges go dark.
Increase Scale to expand the vignette until it fits your image (for example, 150%–300%).
Click OK to apply.
Darken the edges with Multiply
In the Layers panel, set the Gradient Fill layer’s Blend Mode to Multiply.
If needed, lower the layer Opacity to soften the effect.
Preview and fine-tune
Toggle the layer’s visibility (eye icon) to compare before/after.
Double‑click the Gradient Fill thumbnail anytime to adjust Style, Reverse, or Scale.
