Create a neutral gray grain layer

  • Add a new layer above your image and name it “grain.”

  • Go to Edit → Fill, set Contents to 50% Gray, and click OK.

Convert to Smart Object for flexibility

  • Right‑click the grain layer → Convert to Smart Object.

Add noise

  • Go to Filter → Noise → Add Noise.

  • Set Amount (e.g., 15%; raise for stronger grain).

  • Choose Distribution: Gaussian; check Monochromatic for black‑and‑white grain if desired; click OK.

Blend and refine

  • Change the grain layer’s blending mode to Overlay (try Soft Light for subtler effect).

  • Optional: go to Filter → Blur → Gaussian Blur to slightly soften harsh grain.
