Step-by-step instructions

Select the shirt area

  • Choose the Object Selection Tool (W).

  • Set Mode to Lasso in the Options bar.

  • Draw a loose selection around the shirt.

  • Click Subtract from selection and lasso any areas to remove (e.g., a cord).

Apply a Solid Color adjustment

  • Click the Adjustment Layer icon → Solid Color.

  • Pick a color and click OK (example: red).

  • Change the layer’s blend mode to Linear Burn.

Soften edges of the selection

  • Select the adjustment layer’s mask thumbnail.

  • Open Window → Properties and increase Feather to 2.5 px.

Fine-tune the effect

  • Reduce the adjustment layer’s Opacity to 75%.

  • Double-click the Solid Color swatch to try different colors until satisfied.
