How to Add Another Image in Photoshop
Adding more images to your Photoshop project is simple whether you drag and drop or open files in a new tab first. You’ll place the image, scale and position it, align precisely, and organize layers so elements stack correctly.

Step-by-step instructions
Drag and drop to place an image
In your file browser, select an image and drag it into your open Photoshop document.
Release when the cursor shows a plus icon, then double‑click or press Enter/Return to place.
Note: Drag‑placed images are auto‑scaled to fit the canvas.
Open and drag from a new tab (alternate)
Go to File → Open, choose your image, and click Open (it opens in a new tab).
If it’s a locked Background layer, click the lock icon to unlock it.
Drag the layer (or drag the image tab) into your main document and release when the plus icon appears.
Resize and position the image
Press Ctrl+T (Windows) or Command+T (Mac) to enter Free Transform.
Drag corner handles to scale; hold Alt/Option to scale from the center.
Optionally select the Move Tool and enable Show Transform Controls to keep handles visible; press Enter/Return to apply.
Align precisely to the center
Press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Command+A (Mac) to Select All.
With the Move Tool active, click Align Vertical Centers and Align Horizontal Centers in the Options bar.
Press Ctrl+D/Cmd+D to deselect.
Manage layers and import multiple images
Ensure added images are above the background in the Layers panel; drag to reorder if one covers another.
To import several files at once, Ctrl/Cmd‑click multiple files in your file browser and drag them all into Photoshop; place each as prompted.
Toggle layer visibility with the eye icon, and reposition/scale each layer as needed.
